The McEvedy Shield is an annual athletics competition for Wellington boys' secondary schools. The shield was donated by Dr Patrick McEvedy to promote the spirit of athletic competition, and first competed for in 1922.
Since 1981 the four competing schools have been: Wellington College; Saint Patrick's College, Wellington ('St Pat's Town'); Saint Patrick's College, Silverstream ('Silverstream'); and Rongotai College.
There are 14 track and field events in the competition across four age groups (under 14 years, under 15 years, under 16 years and over 16 years ('open')). For each event in each age group a win is worth four points, a second place three points, a third two points and a fourth one point.
